---Women in general were never Jasper’s problem. Handling them, and the baggage that came with them, however, was. The man had never been afraid to open himself up to people that he knew deserved it. These people were far and few in between, but regardless, they still existed. It had started with Krystal Bennett. Jasper had known her since high school. She was an attractive, small blonde girl, with a squeaky voice and an infectious laugh. Jasper had been nothing more with her than physical, until time went on. They eventually became friends, and slowly but surely, he trusted her with some of that genuine good-guy that no one ever saw. He was nice with her, rarely blowing up his temper as he did with most other people. Krystal had more patience with him than anyone else at that time, which was another major factor as to why he enjoyed being around her. The two had their odd relationship for almost a year- and that was when the other Bennett girl came into play. Jasper had always known of Emily Bennett. She was opposite of her sister, and for the most part, acted as if she was too good to even look in Jasper’s direction. All he knew about her, was that she was well known, well liked, and quite the party animal. She had recently just become engaged to one of his best friends, and even then, the girl never gave Jasper so much as a kind word. Jacen had always said it was because the two had nothing in common. But, in fact, Emily and Jasper had everything in common. They did the same things, liked the same things, and talked in the same manner. Their view on life was the same, and even the brand of cigarette they smoked was the same. And one cold December night, Emily Bennett decided to break her silence with Jasper- and break a lot more than just that. You see, Jasper really never knew why he and Emily started sleeping together or why he continued to do it. He knew it was wrong. He knew people would get hurt. But something about it just didn’t feel wrong- which was complete and utter bullshit. So many things were wrong with it, and Jasper just couldn’t find it in himself to care.
---Emily and he continued to sneak around in the weeks that followed. Jasper simply stopped hanging around with Krystal, and spent more of his time with Emily. Jasper had never officially even been with Krystal- he’d mostly convinced himself that they were nothing but mixing friendship with pleasure and that was all. In a way, Jasper knew Emily was just using him. He knew she didn’t love him and she never would. She had loved Jacen for as long as he could remember. He was being selfish though, enjoying any and every moment with Emily that he could. She had told him countless times how she didn’t want to get married, how being tied down scared her, and he felt for her. Emily felt like she was obligated to marry Jacen and in a way, she kind of was. Everyone just expected it out of them. More months went by, and Jasper found himself stupidly falling for the engaged twin sister of Krystal. And not too long after that… she died. Emily was in a car accident, killing her almost instantly. Then everything went by quickly. The phone call, the funeral, everything. He had to just stand by and act like it didn’t affect him as much as it did. He stood next to Jacen, placing his hand on his friends shoulder, trying to console the same empty feeling he himself felt. But no one could know, now. Emily’s memory didn’t need her own unfaithfulness displayed. People should remember her for what was good, and that was all. Little did Jasper know, however, that Krystal knew more than he thought. Emily had apparently told Krystal what had been going on. Just recently, nearly a year after Emily’s death, Krys decided to let this little secret out. First, she told Jacen about what went on between he and his fiancée. Second, she told him something Jasper himself didn’t know. Emily was pregnant with his child during her death. It wasn’t really anything that broke him down, but it gave him a lot to think about. It was a lot to take in. Things had changed a lot in such a small amount of time, and he wasn’t sure why or what any of it meant. Jasper wasn’t a good decision maker. And this whole situation really showed that in a new light.
---Jasper had never even shared his involvement in the Raleigh/Wake Forest with anyone. It was one of the few things he had to himself; being that only two other people in Belmont were even involved. He didn’t have an exact reason as to why he did it. It was different, it was fun, it gave him some crazy sense of family- any of those could’ve been considered reasons. It was dangerous, but not extremely dangerous. He got his fair share of bumps and bruises every now and then, but nothing major had yet to happen. He had driven in that night from Raleigh, feeling the blood dripping from a cut on his forehead. His knuckles were just slightly bruised, as was the left corner of his lip. He paid no mind to the pain, letting his thoughts wander elsewhere. Somewhere he’d found them a lot lately… thinking about Krystal Bennett. It really should seem like a broken record. The two had started talking again, and he remembered what had attracted him to her in the first place. She was easy to talk to, never asked too many questions, and brought out that weird good side of him. He had always been sweet with her, and now was no different… especially since the two had sort’ve picked back up where they had started. As far as he was concerned, they were still nothing serious. They had their fun, and that part of the relationship was as far as it went. Jasper knew though, that something was different. Unlike Emily, Krystal actually did care about Jasper. He had just realized that she always had… and it made him also realize how much of a dumbass he’d been to screw things up with her in the first place. As was customary of him to do, he picked up his phone, and dialed Krystal’s number, asking her if it was okay for him to come over. She of course, obliged, and he let out a yawn as he threw his cell phone back to the passenger seat. Tonight was a long, hard day, and spending time with Krystal seemed like the only thing that’d make it any better. He’d completely forgotten how shitty he must’ve looked, with his semi-bloody face and bruised knuckles. He didn’t remember until he’d knocked on the door, feeling the pressure soak into his knuckles as the knocking sounded. “Fuck,” He mumbled to himself, almost laughing at his stupidity.
---When the door opened, Krystal’s bright smile faltered when she saw his face. And then that flushed concern overcame her, pulling him inside, looking over his scrapes and battle scars. Jasper rolled his eyes at it, as he was then tugged into the kitchen, and then being darted at with a wet rag, dabbing at his forehead and the corner of his lip. She overreacted sometimes. “I’m fine, Krys. Don’t worry about it.” Telling her was pointless, but it was always worth a shot. She looked at him with that crooked stare, asking him questions about what had happened. Honestly, Jasper didn’t want to talk about it. That wasn’t why he was here. He felt all the tension from the day slip away as he watched her set the wet rag down in the sink. He only gave her a small smile, shaking his head. “I’m fine. Nothing worth talking about.” He then reached his course hand outward, grabbing her small delicate one gently. With a swift yet mild tug, he inched her toward him, watching Krystal fight that cute blush that always showed through on the girl’s cheeks whenever he got close to her. Without saying another word, Jasper placed one hand on her hip and the other on the side of her neck, leaning down to meet her in a kiss. Eyes fluttered shut, he felt himself push her back slightly against the counter top, deepening the kiss as he went. Both hands then went to her hips, letting his lips trail over and down her neck- and that’s when he felt her resist. This wasn’t something new with Jasper and Krystal. It was newly-new, considering they hadn’t really been together since before the whole Emily situation, but her resisting was something completely knew. Jasper pulled back, hands still on her hips, as she tilted his head, catching his breath again as his heart slowed. “What’s wrong?” Because it was obvious that something had to be.

---Over the course of one year, a lot has changed. People were ending their relationships left and right, while others were rekindling theirs. Meanwhile, Krystal Bennett was still in the same situation she had always been in. Never settling down, always with one guy after the other, it had never bothered her. Sleeping around with different men, it was merely selfish only getting what she wanted out of the whole ordeal. Then again, that was just how it was. It had started in high school, and has yet to end. Back a year or two ago, Krystal thought there would finally be an end to it. Jasper Sage the two were always found of each other, it was just that Krys was starting to have some type of feelings for the man. Never had that happened to her before, so she pushed them aside as if they were nothing, it was stupid to think that maybe he felt the same way about her. That was proven true, when she learned about Emily her twin sister and him sleeping around together. It was wrong on so many levels and that didn’t seem to make a difference to the two. Em had told Krys this, not know that Krystal and Jasper had a fling so to speak going on. Since the Em and Jasper thing started, Krystal didn’t see much of Jasper. Maybe here and there around town, but that was all. She received no phone calls, or even texts from him. Krystal had no idea how Emily could even do this to Jacen, the guy was head over heels for her. Never understood how she could risk something like that by screwing around. Jacen was a good guy that did not deserve this. No one did. Krystal had known Jacen ever since Em and him started dating, maybe even before that. She got along just fine with him, and she did trust him with Emily. Too bad it was Em that couldn’t be trusted. Coming up on the one year anniversary of Emily’s death, Krystal had told Jacen about Em seeing around and at the time she was having Jasper’s child. The news of this had been given to Krystal just a few days before the car accident that took the life of her twin sister. After that everything just got that much more complicated.
---After sharing the news to both Jacen and Jasper of what they didn’t know. It made her wonder if that was even the right thing to do. Jasper sure as hell didn’t know so, and neither did Kade. That didn’t matter because the truth was already out and there was no going back. Jacen and Krystal started hanging out more than what they had been before. Things slow started progressing with the two, and before Krystal knew it they had slept together. Mind you that she didn’t think anything of it at the time. It had no meaning to it, thought of it as like a Jasper kind of thing. Just friends. More time went one it was happening more and more, and Krystal was starting to develop feelings for the guy. Her dead sister’s ex, and she was having feelings for him. Krystal got a wake up call talking to Kade about it, and it really switched those feelings into discussed. The possibility that Jacen was using her because of the way she looked, and reminded him of Emily. That had been in the back of her mind for a few days now. Jacen had been calling her, but she wouldn’t answer her phone. It wasn’t obsessive, being only been a couple of days. Krystal had finished washing her face, hair pulled back into a small ponytail her ring tone went off. Signing she walking into the bedroom picking up the phone seeing that it wasn’t Jacen, it was Jasper. The two weren’t getting back to where things had left off a while back. That also left her to question a lot of things, so now that Emily wasn’t around he couldn’t get laid by the one person he had strong feelings for so he goes back to the one that’s still alive? Krystal still had a lot of mixed emotions when it came to Jasper. None the less answering her phone he asked if he could come over, and she said yes. There was still the issue that she could never tell the man now.
---It wasn’t long before she heard a knock on the door, opening it up with a smile acrossed her lips. No matter how she felt about Jasper at this very moment she was still happy to see him. However he looked like she had just been in World War II so she pulled him inside as into the kitchen. Grabbing a rag from on top of the counter getting it wet she gently dabbed at his cut forehead, and then down to the corner of his lip. “I’m fine, Krys. Don’t worry about it.” Yeah, okay. Krystal wasn’t buying it, “Jasp, what the hell happened to you?” He didn’t answer her right away, so she finished cleaning him up as best as she could before setting the small rag back into the sink. Looking back up at him he saw his smile and he was shaking his head. “I’m fine. Nothing worth talking about.” He had reached out taking her hand into his, gently tugging her closer into him. Her cheeks became a rosie pink color as she was drawn closer towards him. Trying to fight that because she hated the way he made her feel without even having to do anything. Krystal felt the placement of his hands, one on her small hip the other on the side of her neck before a kiss was shared between the two. As the small of her back hit the countertop gently, the kiss was deepening, feeling on had of his trail down towards her hip. While his kisses followed down her neck. Giving her a chilling feeling making her want it and yet she was tensing up. She was resisting him. This whole incident had happened many times, the two being together, she couldn’t even give you a number on the countless times they had slept together. Never had she pulled away from him that was indeed something new. Jasper pulled back, hands were still where he left them, “What’s wrong?” That was a question that had many answers than what he probably thought.
---Krystal though about this, she knew why she was being this way. It was just throwing it into words was the hard part. She was falling for Jacen when she shouldn’t be. “How can you be with me, after being with Em?” Krystal decided not to bring up Jacen yet. “When you were with her, we just stopped talking, stopped everything, and now that she’s gone you just come back to me? As if you’re not just using me?” Krystal just looked away from him. She knew that he didn’t want to talk and just wanted to get this over with, go back to what they were doing. Right now she couldn’t. “How do I know that you’re not just like him, just wants me to be someone that I’m not, I know he wants me to be Emily.” Krystal was just randomly, rambling to herself. Not meaning for Jasper to hear that. Looking up at him he removed his hands from her with a confused look on his face. Figuring she should either finish or cut herself off there, she continued, “I’m talking about Jacen alright?” Arms were crossed loosely acrossed her chest. Normally Krystal wasn’t like this with him, they didn’t really talk all the much, it was more of a physical relationship more than anything else. Really, it shouldn’t matter who Krystal was falling for because Japer and Krys were merely just friends right?

---Jasper was aware of the fact that Krystal thought he didn’t really care about her. She seemed to think that he only used her for the obvious and in a way he really couldn’t blame her. When he started his little affair with Emily, he kind of just lost all contact with her. Jasper was a completely different person at that time, though. He did care about Krystal, and that scared him. Never did we want to hurt her, but he also didn’t want anything serious. At least that was always what he had thought. He had treated his relationship with Krystal as he had any other thing he had going on with a girl- just for fun. Little had he realized, that Krystal was far different from other things he had ever had going on with girls. That was, until he’d met Emily. The whole situation is something Jasper didn’t and still doesn’t understand. He had loved Emily, even though the feelings weren’t returned. Jasper was never really sure though, if he’d ever loved Krystal. He knew that he cared about her and enjoyed being around her. He also know though, that he really didn’t deserve either of their love, and Jasper was sure he had never gained it from either of them. Emily was gone now and he didn’t try to dwell on what was never there. He had come to terms with the fact that Emily had used him. They were nothing, and they would’ve never turned into anything. But no matter how many times he tried to convince himself that he really didn’t feel anything for Emily, he couldn’t. It happened, but now, it really didn’t matter. Jasper had let it go a long time ago. It seemed Jacen was the one that seemed to be having a hard time doing so- but, hell, he was actually engaged to her. Jasper had let go of Emily. There was nothing left to dwell on. She was gone, and she wasn’t coming back. However, Krystal was still willing to talk to his stupid ass. It had opened his eyes to what exactly he had done to her, pretty much having just walked out of her life without so much as a word. He did feel bad about it, but it wasn’t like he was going to dwell on that either. Again, it had happened. There was no taking it back.
---Krystal looked up at him with a kind of confused face, as if she was trying to grasp what exactly she wanted to say. Jasper watched her for a few more seconds before she started talking, curious as to what exactly was wrong. She had never pulled away from him like that before. “How can you be with me, after being with Em?” Jasper raised his eyebrows at this, knowing he should’ve see that one coming. But she didn’t stop there. “When you were with her, we just stopped talking, stopped everything, and now that she’s gone you just come back to me? As if you’re not just using me?” He disagreed with half of that, and knew that the other half was the truth. Letting go of her, Jasper brought his hand to rub up over her face. His answers were on the tip of his tongue, but wasn’t sure how exactly he would present them. Emily had been gone for a year already, and not once in any of that time had Jasper ran back to Krystal or even thought of “using” her. Using her for what? Because they kind of looked alike? He could’ve yelled at her for even thinking that, if she didn’t already seem upset enough. Jasp knew that he had just dropped all contact with her after he had gotten with Emily, and he had been sorry about that. He had even told Krystal he was sorry for that. But what Krystal seemed to forget was that he was with her before Emily. Jasper knew that the two were totally different, and he would never expect Krystal to somehow replace Emily. He felt bad that she felt this way, but it wasn’t something Jasper really wanted to talk about. Bringing up the past was stupid and pointless in his mind. “I’m not using you.” He finally spoke, in an even stern tone, kind of hurt that she would even think that. “I know that I was an ass, alright? I did just stop talking to you and all that and I really don’t have a reason as to why I did it.” Jasper continued to watch her, hating that he even had to defend himself right now. “Emily’s been gone for a year, Krys. If I had any intention of using you, I would’ve done it a long time ago. And I don’t get why you’d even think I’d do that in the first place.”
---"How do I know that you’re not just like him, just wants me to be someone that I’m not, I know he wants me to be Emily.” Jasper wrinkled his forehead at this, now thoroughly confused. What the hell was she talking about? Who? “I’m talking about Jacen alright?” He stopped for a moment, letting that process. What the hell did Jacen have to do with anything? And within a few seconds, he understood. Something was going on between her and Jacen, and she believed he was using her. Jasper was still stuck on the “her and Jacen” part. He knew it probably showed on his face too. Part of him was mad and upset, and the other part knew he didn’t have any reason to be. It dawned on him just a few days ago that Krystal was more to him than he’d ever led on. She always had been, and lately, he thought that she felt the same way. But as usual, Jacen got what Jasper wanted. That pissed him off more than anything. First Emily, and now Krystal too? However, this time, the tables were turned. Jasper had been with Krystal first. And now, just like Jacen had been with Emily first, he was sliding in and doing whatever it was that he did with Krystal- the only girl at the moment that Jasper even wanted to be with. His silence was dragging on, but he really didn’t know what to say. Jasper just watched her, not sure if he should reply angrily or act as if it didn’t even have anything to do with him. It became obvious though, that Jasper couldn’t just act like it didn’t have something to do with him. It had everything to do with him. It was about time Krystal knew that. If she was confirmation she was going to get it. Along with more truths than she probably even wanted. “You know what Krystal? I’m not Jacen.” He said it kind of forcefully, knowing that it was only because of his current frustration. “I never have been. I’m not clean-cut nor am I a good guy. I can’t commit myself in the ways that he can, and I’m not a smooth talker. I’m not even sure what the hell I’m doing half of the time.” He let his eyes drift away from her, letting his hands slide into his jean pockets. “But I can tell you one thing. I know for damn sure, that he could never care about you like I do.”
---It was a bold statement. Even a little too bold for Jasper’s taste. But he was tired of this. Jacen always seemed to one up him on things. Now Krystal was one too? “You always thought I didn’t care. That I was just in it for fun. At first I was, and I thought the same thing.” Letting his eyes move back to her, he spoke again. “But you know what? That changed. You’re more to me than you think. And I wouldn’t fucking use you like that. You aren’t Emily, and Emily wasn’t you. You’re both too different to even explain. I don’t want another Emily. I never had her in the first place.” He was implying, that he wanted her. Jasper couldn’t really speak for Jacen. He didn’t know if Jacen was in fact using Krystal because of the fact that she looks like Emily, and if he was, he didn’t like it. He didn’t even like the fact that he was going after Krystal at all. Jasper didn’t typically talk this much with her, or about things of this nature. But dammit, he had to right now. He was tired of pretending that he didn’t feel anything for Krystal, and even if she didn’t feel anything for him, he wanted her to know. He had never told Emily, and he had never had the chance to. Jasper wasn’t going to make that mistake again. He let himself move closer to her, moving the hair that had fallen out from behind her ear. Tucking it back with his bruised hand, he sighed. “If you can honestly tell me that you see me only as a hobby, I’ll leave, and let you and Jacen do whatever the hell you want.” Looking right down at her, he gently touched the side of her arm. “But I would never ask you to be someone you aren’t. I know who you are, already. I couldn’t pretend you’re someone else, even if I wanted to.” At that moment, he realized there was a lot about him she didn’t know. Krystal always did most of the talking, and now he was trying to pry it out of her. Because honestly, Jasp knew he couldn’t do it again… he couldn’t put himself out there for a girl, and watch her step all over it. Emilt had. And Jasper didn’t know if Krystal was capable of doing this same thing… now that Jacen was involved, anything seemed possible.
